So, here you are starting off. Well done!
Are you struggling with getting content for your blog?
You know that blogging is what you need to do, to attract people to your business.
You have decided you want to do it, and your business will grow.
You have got your blog set up.
You have done one or two posts (and, boy, they took all day…!!!).
Then you sit one day, and your mind is blank.
If you were writing a novel you would call it writer’s block.
So what do you do?
Well, try this:
Sit with a piece of paper
look at points 1. 2. and 3. below,
- target audience, and then work out:
activity / interest : health/wellness/ fitness etc
- problems: write a list.
1. Know your audience
You need to know who you are aiming the blog at, being neither too specific ,nor too general.
If you are too general, you will not be focussed enough on you target market for them to be interested.
If you are too specific, then you will not attract enough people.
Like Goldilocks. You need to get it just right!
2. Know their problems
What is the main thing that you can help people who are in your business with?
- In Health and Wellness think of weight loss, diet advice, exercise routines.
- In internet marketing it is lead generation, marketing and conversions.
3. Address their problems.
- Health and Wellness
Formulas for weight loss.
Newest diet to try.
- Internet marketing
How to generate leads.
Tips for successful marketing.
Methods of conversion.
So now you have your target audience and your problems you are going to help them with.
Next: the bit you may be worried about:
4. Get Content
- Get Content: you can do it!
So where do you then start to get that information when you are new?
What do you have to offer?
What you have to offer is yourself, and your content.
You give good content, and no one will mind where you come from.
On the other hand, if you produce something, with major errors in it, that made it look as though it is a draft that you have not finished, or with inormation that is out of date, you will not get followers.
And I have seen all of that.
That is not good practice.
Whereas even if your name is not as well known, if your content is good, you are giving good value, people will want to keep watching you and hearing what you have to say.
- Get content: From where?
Well, you should be learning lots.
If you are serious in your business, you will be doing reading and training, of some sort or another.
(If you are not, are you really serious?)
Use that information, and interpret it your own way.
Books you have read: do a book review
6. Write the post
Yes that good old beginning, middle and end!
So, find a post that you learned a lot from. Think about what you are wanting to say.
IN YOUR OWN WORDS. I cannot emphasise enough, do not copy.
Do not plagiarise and copy word for word from other peoples work.
- Write an introduction
Start with a question that you are going to answer;
- Write about how to approach the problem, how to think about it
- Write down some solutions
- Say what you do or what you would do
then, do your summary,
which is generally a call to action: such as:
If you got value please share, or
If you want to ask anything, please comment.
7. Check before you publish
But that is not it.
Not until you have:
- Proof read your content
- Done a spell check
- Reread it for formatting
- Previewed it in published form, where you will often pick up things you didn’t see in text form
Then it is done.
The next two things you need to think about are
Yes, to get it out there for everyone to see.
And in a form that google will like, and start ranking.
Now you may have heard about SEO. This is for getting your blog ranked on google. Search engine optimisation.
My advice for a brand new blogger, who has never done any of this before, and know nothing about SEO, is to get your blog out.
Unless you have lots of time and are not busy with anything else.
Once you are in the flow of producing your blog, which may take days or weeks, depending on how often you are blogging, then you should look at SEO.
To do it all at once may seem too big a task. If you want to then by all means do it.
Just don’t delay putting your blog out, because you haven’t done SEO.
And syndication is easy, you just need to know the steps to take.
I will tell you about SEO and syndication in other posts.
Generally the recommendation is that you write three to five posts before you actually publish one.
So get your fingers on the keys.
Blog daily. Get into a routine.
With these simple steps, you will soon be blogging easily, and finding success in your business.
And please tell me how you are doing.
