How do you come up with great content so that you can make money with it?
Are you the kind who goes blank when you sit down in front of your computer?
Or do you have so many thoughts swirling around that you don’t know how to actually start?
Here are some tips to help:
1. First breathe.
Take a moment. Take five deep breaths, and imagine who you are talking to and who you are going to help today. Think of the message you are wanting to send out.
2. Don’t overcomplicate the process.
It can be so easy to take hours tweaking the blog, manipulating images, fiddling about with plug ins
Then you get to the point when it is time to make content, you get confused, hours go by, and you haven’t created anything.
And you sit with your hands pulling at your hair,
and you think:
What do I have to share?
Well, just remember: blog posts are not term pages,
they are not college essays!
Blog posts are conversational. Chatty. Not formal language. Shorter sentences, and shorter paragraphs are needed.
You want to be speaking to and engaging the audience. Write like you are actually talking to someone.
Although do try to have your grammar and spelling to be correct! Nobody likes reading things they are constantly correcting in their head, because it detracts from them taking in what they are reading.
You can use tools for that: you can paste your blog into word, and do a spelling and grammar check.
But first just write. Here are some step-by-step guidelines to get you started.
3. Don’t worry about SEO
Now, that was an issue previously, when you had to load your post with key words, and you had tothink about percentages.
This is not necessary now. Especially in this blogging system.
Write naturally and forget about SEO. The algorithms now are designed to pick up semantic keyword processing.
This means you need to provide information specific to the content, and good quality content.
So, as a beginner, just get the hang of blogging.
Like everything, the more you do it the easier it gets.
And soon it gets to be a habit, so that you don’t feel right if you haven’t done it.
4. What can blog posts do for you?
OK, so, blogging is a long-term marketing strategy.
It is good for:
- generating traffic
- generating leads.
- converting sales
- creating influence and authority.
But it is the influence and the authority that is important. This should be your focus because this is the thing that will get you the traffic, the leads and the conversions. And it is the thing that results from consistent production of good quality content.
5. Can you really blog about anything?
Well, you can blog for fun, but I am talking about blogging to make money.
So, yes, you can blog about anything. Everyone has multiple interests.
Look at people on Facebook: look at the things you ‘like': TV programmes, books, political or social events.
On Facebook, all the things that are unrelated that show up are related to our likes, and there is a good chance that people you attract with have some of the same interests.
So you will attract an audience who are attracted by those things.
But the closer that you focus to your target audience, the more effective your marketing will be.
What do they like? What do they do?
The better you can speak to them, the better targeted and so higher converting traffic you will have.
This blogging platform however, is specifically designed for marketers, and for commercial use, and can be easily customised for whatever niche you are in. It is an easy to set up wordpress blog, that can be tailored to whatever your products are, has great training within it, and can deal with unlimited amounts of traffic.
CONTENT FOR POSTS
Think about what you want to say, and who is reading it. What do you want them to do after they have read your post?
Are you just wanting to entertain, or give something to think about, educate, or enlighten?
You should be able to come up for an idea in 10-15 minutes, and then write it and publish it in 20-45 minutes.
However, to start with, when you are still trying to set it all up, it may take a bit longer than that. And if you are taking more than four hours on a regular basis, you need to reconsider what you are doing. Although your persistence is to be applauded. Thie thing is, if you are blogging daily, you need to get it down to a manageable time.
Altogether, it should take about an hour.
- Curation/ Viral popular blogs
This is where you use stuff from other sites. Try e.g. mashable.com or alltop.com and then YouTube.
mashable is a blog which blogs about everything. Have a look at it.
They make money by advertising and your blog works the same way.
Now, you cannot just copy and paste the exact text. You need to put extracts in and write your own take on it. But use things that you are interested in that you think others will be too, and talk about them.
You can also try alltop.com and then YouTube for videos that you can embed in your post.
- Reviews/ Opinions
e.g. you can purchase a product and do what it says, then see what the outcome is, and report that.
Now if the results are not there, and it doesn’t do what it said, you then share the whole thing, and then underneath post a link to something that does work, or to check out your blog this can be very effective. Obviously you will need the time to be able to research the products and then try them out.
Opinions can be very good particularly in political or social affairs, and can attract a lot of interaction.
- Your Hobbies/ Your Passions
Everyone has something that they enjoy and that they are good at. People are always interested in seeing what you have been doing.
Write about it. Not necessarily every post. The main thing is to be authentic, and to show who you are, and what you do. Again, this could be anything: cookery, crafts, sports, nutrition, gardening, travelling.
- Case Studies i.e. proven strategies
Especially in Internet marketing, people are very interested in seeing how you get your results. It is a bit like a review, except it is on what you have done yourself to prove that it works. So you need to learn something, do it, put it into action, and then report it either in a blog or a video.
- Problems and solutions.
Do some keyword research and find questions that people are having about their business, and then answer them.
You can look at other peoples blogs, and on chat sites, to see what people want help with. This of course, can take a lot of time, so watch out. Maybe do this research as an extra.
- Share stories, successes, failures:
Don’t share struggles until they are over. Nobody wants to hear about your current position of misery. They want to know how you got out of it. Which of these two would you want to read about: I was miserable, broke, and now I am earning a full time income on a part time work, or, I was miserable and broke, and I am helpless and depressed. It’s not that you don’t feel sorry for them! But the first one is a story. The second one is just the opener.
And if you are new, then you share:
- Other people’s stories
- Name recognition:
Use superheroes, iconic figures, e.g. why the Terminator would make a good internet marketer: (because he never quits!), 5 reasons why Oprah inspires me, etc.
- Email your list
..and ask them what they would like to achieve or know. Or you can set up a survey on survey monkey, and ask them to fill it in, to ask about e.g. their biggest worry right now. Then answer those problems in a blog.
So there are a lot of suggestions. You should be able to write something every day using something from that list.
But what do you have to remember?
Like the Terminator
you should not give up.
Don’t think after writing one or two posts that you should be getting lots of traffic.
It can take up to six months or a year before you start having enough content to rank and to start bringing success.
Don’t get discouraged.
It can take 30-50 blog posts of sharing your content and building your authority so that you create a flow of traffic.
The main thing is with these ways of finding and producing content, you should not be at a loss for content.
Write from your heart, and write what you enjoy.
Your own style and voice will develop, and that is what people will be attracted to.
Just keep going and you will get results.
If you are interested in building an additional source of online income, that can then become a full time income, you just need to commit to the process. Yes, you will produce results.
