So, what is a blog? The best definition I found is straightforward:
A blog is a frequently updated online personal journal or diary.
It is a place to express yourself to the world. A place to share your thoughts and your passions.
1. Who would want to know about my thoughts and passions?
Do you have an inbuilt desire to better yourself? To change your life because it is not right for you.
Well, the way we know about other ways of doing things is by seeing what other people do. And we generally do this by reading about what they have done, or how they have done it, or listening to what they have done, or how they have done it.
Then you can decide whether you want to try their way. Which is often something you haven’t thought of yourself.
So when you are reading a personal diary of another person, you are sharing in their life and their thoughts. And you can then choose to follow people whose thoughts align with yours, or people who challenge you with ways that are alien to your thinking. And some make a big impression on you, and some don’t. There is no right or wrong.
2. What if I say something really stupid?
Think of it as having a conversation with someone you meet. They come up to you and they are interested in hearing your views. If they don’t like what they hear, they will go away pretty soon. There will always be people who find what you say interesting, and informative and helpful, and those that don’t. How much do you think about other blogs that you are not interested in: not a lot, you just move on. If you like them you comment, and get involved in dialogue. You can still have a good blog that some people will not like. If you are passionate about your subject, then that passion will come through.
3. So what’s the point?
It is the best way you have of putting information out there that others can access and gain value from. It is the best way of sharing news, views and information that can touch people, and help people, wherever they are in the world. It is mind-blowing in its power, and potential for influence of individuals and groups.
And whatever level you write at, or pitch to, there will be someone out there, even if it is only one person, who will think about your point of view and gain benefit from it.
So, to change your own life, and help others on their journey, start blogging!!
Try it. It only works.
Wishing you success in whatever you do.
